Little Miss Pig Tails Visit

Grace Arnts, from Alta, is the Little Miss Pigtails for BV County.  Here she is showing the many jobs that pork producer provide to people.

We learned many things about pork producers, but the highlight was holding the young piglets.

One of the piglets was EXTRA squealy!

Aww, aren't they cute!

Everyone had a chance to hold one or just to pet one.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Oh, what fun we had at our Halloween party.  The kids put on their costumes and had a parade in the gym.  Then we played two fun games.  One was a ring toss game and the other was pumpkin bowling. The boys won the ring toss and the girls won at bowling.  Then we enjoyed some yummy treats.  Thanks to the families that helped host our party.  It was "SPOOK"-TACULAR!

Naturalist Visits

Katie, the B.V. Co. Naturalist, visited our classroom last week.  She taught us about nocturnal animals and how they use their senses.  Here are some of the kids exploring the furs of nocturnal animals.

Fire Safety

The Fonda Fire Fighters show us their gear.
We learn what to do in case of a fire.
Here we go!  It is a big step up!

All up on top and ready to go!

What a view!

A bird's eye view going down the road.

The whole class in front of the fire truck.  Thanks to the Fire Fighters for volunteering their time to visit the school.

PICKLES

On Monday the second graders followed a recipe for pickling cucumbers.  They all had a little part in washing the cucumbers and measuring ingredients.  We really used our sense of smell to check out the onions, garlic, and dill that went into the recipe.  The big jar sat on our table for four days and we watched the cucumbers change into pickles.  On Friday, the jar was put into the fridge and that afternoon we ALL had a taste test.  Here we are just getting ready for the first taste.
I promised that if they didn't like it they could throw it away, but I was proud of everyone for at least trying them.
Here are the kids that didn't think very highly of pickles.  Oh well!

YAY!  Look how many more kids LOVED the taste of the pickles.  The purple chart in the background is where we made a pictograph of who liked pickles.
